Introducing Pippi Långstrump (Pippi Longstocking)

Created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, Pippi is a lovable eccentric nine year old girl that loves adventure and lives outside established conventions. She has a father who is a pirate, and who only appears from time to time. Mainly she lives alone, and how she wishes, she can go to bed at what time she likes and can always sleep in her preferred way, feet on the pillow, head under the covers; she can make pancakes whenever she chooses, and for company has her horse, quartered on the porch and fed with brandy-snaps, and her monkey, Mr Nilsson. With her bright red hair and tales of adventures, Pippi is the cheeky, cheerful heroine every little girl will aspire to be. With illustrations taken from the original Pippi books we love this colouring book and it is a perfect introduction to the world of Pippi.

Something for the Weekend... Tate Art Trolley

We're going to get creative this weekend and head over to Tate Britain and make use of their brilliant Art Trolley. The trolley is packed with activities and materials that can be taken into the galleries to help you and the kids get the most out of the Tate collections. While we're there we will be popping in to see the nominees for the controversial Turner Prize, a sure way to get the kids talking about art.
Available every weekend 11am -5pm http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/

We'd like you to meet... Barbapapa

We want to introduce you to Barbapapa, a pear-shaped, flamingo pink blob-like character who tries to fit into the human world. Originally the main character of a French childrens book by authors Annette Tison and Taus Taylor and later a childrens cartoon series, Barbapapa tells the adventures of a family of friendly-looking creatures whose bodies can morph into any shape to answer any need. We love the Barbapapa family and with Barbapapa, Barbamama and the seven Barbababies we know you'll fall in love with them too.

Wonderful Onesies

We think onesies are wonderful and make perfect everyday wear for the tiny ones. Here are the pick of our best for AW10.
We just love the bright stars and orange trim on this great all in one from Molo.
Every little girl loves frills and flounces and this all in one from Molo is so sweet with it's frill neckline and bright pink button detail.
We can't get enough of the Katvig apple print and for AW10 it's been given a twist with this Apple Lotus Print. We love this all in one in these purple shades, with a splash of pink and it's organic.
This all in one is a great wardrobe staple, perfect for layering or worn alone we can't get enough of the Hollys clover print and love the super cute pink detailing.

This all in one from Hollys is a great wardrobe staple perfect for layering up and so cute with it's classic clover print. Perfect newborn gift, also available in blue.

Little Boy Blue

We know that every little boy loves blue, it's in our genes don't you know!! Here at Sparkle & Spin we have some great blues to choose from, for the tinies up to the little men. But we can't promise you the girls won't want a piece of the action.

This jumper is a real Katvig classic and is back again for this autumn/winter in new great colours. Here in shades of blue with a brown trim, great for those cooler winter days. Also available in grey shades with yellow trim.

This soft and lightweight jumper from Molo has taken the classic stripe and given them a twist. The neon green detailing is brilliant and looks great against the blue and grey stripes.

These super soft turquoise sweat pants from Hollys are perfect for the little ones. With elasticated waist and a black clover for good luck on the back pocket.

Every little man should have a classic nautical stripe top and we love this long sleeve from Ej Sikke Lej complete of course with the infamous Mr Owl print on the sleeve.

Something for the Weekend..... Koinobori

A couple of weekends ago we headed over to Spitafields for the Japan Matsuri Festival that showcased the best of all things Japanese. The highlight of our day was visiting our friend Moto's stall Koinobori that sells two traditional Japanese dishes Okonomiyaki and Yaki Onigiri. Okonomiyaki a popular street food is a savory pancake with special brown sauce, Japanese mayonnaise and Seaweed Flakes. Yaki onigiri a rice cake fried in sesame oil with garlic soy sauce is a typical Japanese picnic snacks and they both get a double thumbs up from the Sparkle & Spin family. For those of you that missed this fantastic Japanese celebration don't panic because you can still head to the old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane E1 every Sunday where you will find the Koinobori stall and Moto busy cooking up delicious Japanese treats at the Sunday up Market, Backyard Market and Boiler House Food Hall. We can't recommend it enough!
